# The AI assistant

> Ask questions about your data, and let it do the clicking

The assistant panel lives on the right of the app. It can answer
questions about your own register, make changes for you, find data
quality problems, and undo its own work if something goes wrong.
Everything it does respects your role's permissions and is written to
the audit log exactly like a change you made yourself.

## Asking questions

Type a question in plain English, like "which vehicles are due for
service this quarter?" or "show me laptops with warranty expiring in the
next 90 days." The panel suggests useful starting questions if you're not
sure what to ask. It can also read an image or document you attach
(up to 5MB), which is handy for pasting in a spreadsheet screenshot or a
supplier quote and asking what it means for your register.

## Making changes

Ask it to make a change, like "move these ten laptops to the Sydney
office," and it acts within your role's permissions, the same as if you'd
clicked through the UI yourself. If your role can only request a change
rather than make it directly, the assistant follows the same
[change request](/assets/change-requests) rules you would.

Mistakes happen. Every action the assistant takes is logged, and it can
undo its own recent changes if something wasn't right. The panel reminds
you to double-check anything before you rely on it, the same caution
you'd apply to a very fast, very literal new team member.

## Data quality

Ask the assistant to find duplicate assets, merge two records that
turned out to be the same thing, or sweep the register for common
problems like missing owners or locations.

## Effort and model

Two settings in the panel's input bar control how the assistant thinks:
**Effort** (Minimal, Low, Medium or High) trades speed for thoroughness,
and **Model** (Balanced or Frontier) chooses which underlying AI model
answers. Turn effort up for a complex, multi-step request, and back down
for a quick lookup.

## Limits

AI usage allowances are set per plan and reset weekly. See
[Billing](/admin/billing). If a workspace has AI features turned off
entirely (see
[Organisation settings](/setup/organisation-settings#data--compliance)),
the assistant panel is disabled for everyone in that organisation.
